There are those who believe that we determine not only our end but also the means by which we die. As Menninger stated it: "In the end each man kills himself in his own selected way, fast or slow, soon or late."
ReplyDeleteTheir symptoms vary but they are alike in two respects: they are afraid; and they take great care to conceal it. They go to the doctor with many a small ache or pain but without consciously intending to reveal their apprehension. Sometimes, in the presence of a sympathetic doctor, they betray a sign of that inner terror. When they hear themselves daring to reveal what they have kept hidden with such great effort, they retreat and quietly close the door of the dark room they had entered by mistake.
